CODING AGENT · OFFICIAL-SOURCE REVIEW

Claude Code

Anthropic's terminal coding agent for understanding codebases, executing tasks and handling Git workflows across terminal, IDE and GitHub.

Verdict: A mature, broad coding workflow for individuals and teams already using Claude. Its public repository exposes documentation, plugins and tooling, but its license reserves rights under Anthropic's commercial terms; public visibility is not the same as standard open source.

What does it solve?

Claude Code reads codebases, explains complex code, edits files, executes commands and handles Git workflows from the terminal. Official integrations extend it into IDEs and GitHub, while non-interactive mode can emit structured JSON.

Recommended installation now uses official installers, Homebrew or WinGet rather than npm. Authentication can use Claude plans, Anthropic Console, Amazon Bedrock or Google Vertex AI.

Why 85?

Key boundaries

  • Do not skip permissions in untrusted repositories; project configuration and MCP files are inputs too.
  • Distinguish a public repository from an open-source license; the official license is not a common OSI license.
  • Map where code, sessions, feedback and diagnostics go before team deployment.
  • Measure success, rework and model cost on real tasks rather than demos.

Sources and limits

Capabilities, installation, authentication and data policy come from the official repository and documentation. Licensing comes from its LICENSE file. Metrics come from the GitHub REST API. No standardized benchmark yet; confidence is 72%.
